The LIA (Laboratoire Informatique d’Avignon – UPR 4128) is the Computer Science Laboratory of Avignon University. It is a research unit that brings together Computer Science faculty members at Avignon University, as well as administrative and technical staff, engineers, postdoctoral students, doctoral candidates, and master’s students during their research internships. The laboratory is integrated into the CERI (Centre d’Enseignement et de Recherche en Informatique), the Computer Science department of Avignon University.

Comprising approximately 90 individuals, including 29 permanent staff members and around 40 doctoral students who work in the fields of automatic speech and language processing, computer networks, and operational research, the laboratory is organized into two teams: CORNET and SLG.

The LIA is a member of the Carnot Cognition Institute, the Brain and Language Research Institute (BLRI) Laboratory of Excellence (Labex), and participates in the Agorantic research federation (FR 3621) and the Tersys federative research structure (SFR 4241).

Engaging in numerous industrial and academic collaborations at the international, national, and regional levels, the LIA hosts the LIAvignon industrial partnership chair in Artificial Intelligence, with a particular focus on voice, speech, and speaker processing.

Founded in 1987 by Henri Méloni, the laboratory is currently led by Yannick Estève.
